Where is Yoderville?
The Yoderville Biodiesel Collective (YBDC)
is a small group founded to prove that
people have the ability to take an active
role in their energy independence.
Our members are so impressed with
Biodiesel’s obvious environmental,
economic and geopolitical attributes that
we have been compelled to act. We focus
on locally available waste fryer oil due
to ample supply and the sustainability of
this base stock.
The Collective is comprised of volunteers
who pool resources to collect waste oil
and convert it to biodiesel. The YBDC
first got together in the fall of 2004 and
assembled a 50 gallon batch processor
at a small farm south west of Iowa
City on the Orval Yoder Turnpike (the
inspiration for the group’s name). During
the first phase, the group processed
approximately 2,000 gallons of fuel over
a 5 month period at a material cost of
about $0.80 per gallon.
